This has been and will continue to be an exciting month of sports! First, the Seahawks won the Superbowl and now the Olympics in Russia! There are many teachable moments you can capitalize on as you watch the Olympics with your children. 1. Discuss Inspiration. Ask them what are they willing to work really hard for.
2. Prepare Them for Some Type of Controversy or Conflict in the Olympics. There is usually some type of drama. Ask them how they would handle the situation.
3. Explore or Watch programs about the Olympians back story. Ask them what they feel is their back story. How did they get to this point in their own life?
4. Discuss Teamwork. Ask them what makes a good teammate.
5. Discuss Sportsmanship. Ask them what the difference is between poor and good sportsmanship. Have them look for signs of both.
6. Global Information. Ask them what they learned about other countries and cultures.
7. Critically Analyze Advertising. Ask them about mixed messages and advertising ploys.
